The free iHeart app is where to go to listen to exclusive play-by-play action of Team USA. To celebrate, we are spotlighting some of the country's athletes that are vying for gold.

Jessica Pegula, a 30-year-old tennis player from Buffalo, New York, is set to represent Team USA at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. Pegula, who stands at 5'7", will compete in both the singles and doubles tournaments, partnering with Coco Gauff in the latter.

Born on February 24, 1994, Pegula is the daughter of billionaires Terry and Kim Pegula, owners of the NFL's Buffalo Bills and the NHL's Buffalo Sabres. Despite her family's wealth, Pegula has made it clear that her success in tennis is a result of her own hard work and dedication. "I can't buy my way into a semifinal," she said in an episode of Netflix's Break Point.

Pegula's journey to professional tennis began at the age of 7 when she started taking tennis lessons. Her family moved to Boca Raton, Florida, in 2007 to support her burgeoning tennis career. She trained with Dave Rineberg, Serena and Venus Williams' former hitting coach, while attending high school online before going to the University of Pittsburgh.

Pegula's breakthrough came in her mid-20s when she reached her first Grand Slam quarterfinal during the 2021 Australian Open. Since then, she has competed in the quarterfinals at every Grand Slam tournament. However, she is still vying for her first Grand Slam singles title.

This will be Pegula's second time at the Olympics, having competed at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021. She and Gauff hope to become the first American women's doubles team to win gold since Serena and Venus Williams in 2012.
