Listen to New England Patriots insider Tom. E. Curran, of NBC Sports Boston, join The Dan Patrick Show to discuss what caused the breakup between Tom Brady and the franchise he won six Super Bowls with.
Brady is expected to sign with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in what will soon become one of the most unprecedented transactions in sports history. The most famous NFL free agent ever was widely rumored to be shopping himself to a handful of teams that included the Bucs, Bears, Chargers, Cowboys, Panthers, Titans, and 49ers, but many expected the negotiations to simply be innocent flirting, until Brady made his way back to New England for his 21st season as a Patriot.
With hours to go before free agency Brady took to his Twitter account to post an emotional farewell to Patriots fans, officially ending his iconic run with the team.
Could the breakup have been avoidable? Former NFL wide receiver TJ Houshmandzadeh even said on The Doug Gottlieb Show on Tuesday that he thought the relationship between Brady and Bill Belichick had been irreparably damaged two years ago when Belichick was secretly pushing for the team to move off Brady and start a new era with heir apparent Jimmy Garoppolo.
